How MTGO Spectator handles optional analytics and advertising.
No account is required
The public beta reads reporting data from the MTGO Spectator service. It does not require an account and does not send database credentials to your browser.
Analytics and advertising
Google Analytics 4 is enabled by default for visitors in the United States. Its consent state remains denied by default everywhere else until Analytics is accepted. The Google tag uses this regional consent default without relying on a visitor-country header from the hosting platform; when consent is denied, it may send cookieless consent and measurement signals. When Analytics is enabled, it measures page views, reporting interactions, and one qualified-visit event after either ten visible seconds or a second public page view. Google click identifiers are withheld from Analytics unless you also accept Advertising. Advertising storage and advertising user data remain denied everywhere until the separate Advertising choice is accepted. Advertising personalization, Google Signals, and ad-personalization signals remain disabled.
Independently of optional Google services, the site keeps anonymous hourly counts of public page loads and Google campaign landings, summarized by day. Google traffic is grouped only into fixed Search, Display, desktop Display, or unattributed categories; raw campaign parameters are not retained. Prefetch, prerender, preview, bot, crawler, command-line, and headless-browser requests are excluded by inspecting request-purpose headers and the user agent only in memory.
The aggregate does not store IP addresses, cookies, user agents, referrers, URLs, campaign parameters, account identifiers, or unique-visitor profiles. These are page-load counts, not unique-user analytics.
Advertising permission allows non-personalized Google AdSense in-page banners and Google Ads conversion measurement when a visitor uses a public login link. The conversion event contains no account credentials and is sent before navigation to the private login page. Full-screen, anchor, side-rail, overlay, and personalized formats are disabled. Rejecting optional services leaves the reporting website fully usable.
Account and submission data
Accounts use the MTGO player name already present in Challenge records. Passwords are stored only as one-way hashes, and website sessions are stored only as token verifiers. Pages rendered with an active account session do not load Google Analytics or AdSense.
Deck uploads are parsed without retaining the raw file. Normalized card rows, a content hash, the selected archetype, and metadata-only lifecycle records are stored. Uploaded card lists are visible only to Top 32 players, contributors, and operator-authorized god-mode accounts for that Challenge; accepted archetypes may immediately affect public aggregate reports.
Deleting an account removes its sessions, submissions, uploaded cards, and contribution grants. Exact player names remain in historical Challenge results because they are source tournament records.
Storage and withdrawal
Your selection is stored in this browser as a strictly necessary preference and overrides the regional default on future visits. You can change or withdraw it at any time. Withdrawal reloads the page without optional Google scripts and removes accessible Google Analytics and Google Ads cookies for this site. A saved choice continues to apply if your region changes.
If you follow an archetype, its format, name, and public deck-page path are also stored only in this browser for the home-page shortcut. You can remove each followed archetype from the home page or its deck page. This preference is not sent to an MTGO Spectator account or database.

Scryfall previews
Deck card names can show an image supplied by Scryfall. No Scryfall image is requested until you hover, focus, or tap a card name, or explicitly choose Visual and expand one deck. Visual mode loads only the expanded deck’s card rows. Requests include card names and ordinary network information handled under Scryfall’s Privacy Policy.
